Our Appointment With HEB

Today carried a special meaning. Our meeting with HEB was not just a business conversation—it was the building of a bridge. HEB, as one of the most influential enterprises in Texas, represents the daily lives of countless families. For us, stepping into this dialogue meant bringing the voices of Asian Americans into the broader stage of mainstream society.

At the meeting, James Harris left a deep impression with his warmth and sincerity. When he spoke of the possibilities of community partnership, his tone was confident, his eyes filled with anticipation. In that moment, I felt the opening of many doors—not only for our cooperation with HEB, but for the chance that the Asian American community could, through such connections, have our values, culture, and contributions seen and acknowledged more fully.

For generations, Asian Americans have worked quietly, yet resiliently, on this land. From opening shops and founding businesses, to participating in politics and building newspapers, we have cultivated our place, often without recognition, yet always with determination. Today’s conversation felt like a new mark in that long history: a reminder that we are not merely followers—we are participants, contributors, and builders of the future.

Looking back tonight, I realize this was more than a meeting; it was a prologue to history. One day, when people speak of Texas’s development, perhaps they will recall the role Asian Americans played in shaping its story. And perhaps, today was the beginning of that chapter.
