The Future of Houston |
|
|
|
|
A group of recent college
graduates, who soon will join the City of Houston came to visit
the International Trade Center this week. All of them are
graduates of top universities including Stanford, the University
of California and the University of Texas.
I had the opportunity to give them all a tour of our offices and
talk with them "face to face."
All of the graduates are in their 20's. I found all of them to
be very intelligence and very knowledgeable.
I introduced them to the newly founded International District
and the International Trade Center. Both of these organizations
are non-profit and work for the development of the southwestern
area of the city. We told the students that the goal is to
create a very unique spot for the city and hope that one day it
will become a major tourist attraction for Houston. I also
explained to them how the new immigrants from all over the world
came to America to seek a better life and how many of them,
because their hard work, created many success stories.
When I look at the faces of these young professionals, I had
full confidence that as they join
the city service, they will become good city officials. They are
our future. They are a group of people who will manage our
city’s affairs. |
