Feds Need New Measures to
Control Bus Operations |
|
|
|
|
Federal
authorities are trying to stop the company involved in the bus
crash in Texas that killed 17 passengers from doing business
again under different names.
?
Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Administrator John
Hill said, "We are trying desperately to set up a system that
alerts us to critical things like addresses, phone numbers,
names that sound similar etc. We have been testing it. We just
haven't got it fully implemented yet."
?
The federal agency has been under fire for failing to know that
Iguala BusMex was simply an offshoot of Angel Tours, with the
same address and the same operator. Iguala BusMex had received a
U.S. Department of Transportation number, but had not been
approved for operation at the time of accident.
?
Hill declared Angel Tours a “threat” and an imminent hazard to
public safety and added that it must cease all operations
immediately.
?
We fully support the federal government's decision in this
matter. In the meantime, we urge all bus companies to follow the
law to protect the lives of all passengers.. |
