First Annual Alief International
Parade |
|
|
|
|
More than 1,000 local civilians, politicians, school bands and
business people participated in the first annual Alief
International parade on Saturday morning in this southwest
Houston community. It was the first parade here in twenty five
years.
The parade formed and started at the International Trade Center
located next to the offices of the Southern News Group. More
than twenty busloads of truck Alief School District students,
from marching bands to Boy Scouts all lined up in front of the
building.
Politicians participating in the parade included U.S.
Congressman Al Green and Texas State
Representatives Hubert Vo and Jim Murphy.
The parade also was a celebration of the newly founded
International District, which represents a 16-square mile
section of the community which includes Alief, This area was
generally run down until many new immigrants moved in and
started rebuilding the area. Now it is one of the hottest
developing areas in the City of Houston.
We are really proud to be part of this great development and
growth and seeing the community coming back. |
