Texas Wind Power Creates Energy |
|
|
|
|
The Texas Public
Utility Commission has approved nearly $5 billion to build power
transmission plants to harness the wind. The “land of oil and
gas” is now staking a big chunk of its energy future on the
wind.
The project will eventually
transmit 18,456 megawatts of wind from west Texas and the
panhandle region. That would provide enough energy to power 3.7
million homes on a hot summer day. The service line will have to
wait for four to five years.
The plan, which is expected to be
finalized this month, represents a middle ground of five cost
estimate scenarios ranging from $3 to $6.4 billion dollars. Some
Texas lawmakers worry about the reliability of the system while
others some say it is very costly. But most believe that Texas
consumers ultimately will benefit from the project.
Today we are in an energy
situation that is a very "difficult time". We need to start to
use the alternative way to find the solution. |
