Houstonians Remembering Dr.
DeBakey |
|
|
|
|
Thousands of
Houstonians and people from around the world viewed Dr. Michael
DeBakey's? casket at Houston's City Hall on Tuesday, paying
their final respects to the heart surgeon whose pioneering
medical work saved thousands of lives all over the world.
DeBakey’s long-time colleague and
rival surgeon, Dr. Denton Cooley, also came to say goodbye to
this medical giant.
DeBakey died of natural
causes?Friday night at the age of 99. For the City of Houston,
this is the first time the 69-year old downtown building had
ever been used to pay such a tribute.
One of the patients who had been
treated by him remarked that, "He was just such a wonderful,
warm human being."
Houstonians from all walks of
life, rich or poor, friends and strangers, all came to pay last
respects to DeBakey, a true pioneer in the medical world. |
