Mr. Mayor, Mr.
Priestley, Consul Generals of Japan, India, Panama and Canada,
City Councilman M. J.Khan, Representative Hubert Vo,
distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
Good morning and welcome. I am here today representing all
of the members of the International Trade Center Board of
Directors and to thank all of you for joining us on this
historical occasion.
Almost thirty years ago, we as new immigrants came to
America to seek a better life. And this great country gave us
the opportunity and also the liberty and freedom. Now it is our
turn to pay back this community for letting us be part of this
great city.
With the great support from Mr. Duaine Priestley and the U.S.
Department of Commerce Commercial Service staff, our dream is
now a reality.
The International Trade Center is non-profit 501C6 project
funded by Southern News Group, which represents a partnership
between the federal government and the private sector that
creates a business model platform for small and middle size
companies that want to do international business.
In less than one year, more than 20 delegations from overseas
countries have already visited the ITC, with over 1,000
companies having attended our seminars. More than 10 consul
generals from around the world have come to visit and meet with
us and now, we are working to create information centers for 12
targeted countries at the ITC. We also offer office space
without charge for several non-profit community organizations to
help and support them in any way we can.
And at the same time, Mr. Mayor, the International Management
District held an organizational public hearing last week with
very positive results. And because of state representative
Hubert Vo’s and City Councilman Khan’s effort, we are now “full
speed ahead” to create a very unique International District in
Southwest Houston. In this 16 square mile area, signed into
being last year by Governor Rick Perry, we will build a truly
international community that will emphasize safety,
beautification, development of business issues, and to provide a
great tourist destination for the residents and visitors to the
City of Houston.
Mr. Mayor, we are all very proud to be Houstonians and for the
many opportunities we have here. You have our promise that we
will work hard along side the city to bring more international
business to Houston and help more businesses find markets for
their export overseas.
To celebrate the opening of the International Trade Center
Houston, Texas, Mayor planted this native pine tree in front of
our office.
We want the growth of this tree to represent the goodwill we
have toward all countries and all peoples of the world. And we
dedicate our efforts to the promotion of international trade,
commerce and education between all Houston, U.S. and overseas
companies. Ladies and gentlemen, after many years When We look
back this occasion We should feel very proud of it.
Thank you Mr. Mayor. |
